Why we are Portable

The typical church plant does not start out with a permanent building.  In fact, having a mortgaged facility to maintain would usually be unhealthy for a new church.  It's healthier for a new church to stay focused on people growth at the beginning and not become defined by a building too soon.  New churches, out of necessity, must use a larger part of their budgets for advertising and outreach in order to keep the word out about its existence and to keep touching people's lives.  The hiring and sustaining of its first office and ministry staff also takes precedence over a mortgage in a new church.

True North has rented space at the Milton District High School since it's launch in February, 2008.  The church has exclusive use of the school for Sunday mornings, using the gym and theatre space combined with classroom space as needed.  A custodian sets up the necessary chairs in the auditorium used for the sanctuary (the room has a built-in stage).  All other equipment needed for a Sunday service is transported to the site on a weekly basis by the church.

Setup and takedown of the Sunday service is a normal part of the True North Church culture and has actually been the catalyst for new friendships among team members.  2 volunteer teams rotate on a bi-weekly basis in order to spread the work out among everyone.  Portable Church Industries equipment has helped make everyone's job much easier and the set-up flow smoothly from our launch day to present day.  Our entire church setup is typically finished in 30-40 minutes!  Then, its break time with coffee and donuts!
