OUR CHURCH DNA
True North Church is a non-denominational, evangelical, Spirit-filled church.
We are a non-denominational church
That means we are not affiliated with any one denomination; we are an independent, self-supporting Christian church. In fact, our church is full of people who were raised with different church backgrounds/denominations or no church background at all. It’s always our goal to touch the lives of the unchurched and make it easy for people to understand the Gospel and experience God’s love for the first time. People with a long history of church attendance also feel comfortable at True North and appreciate the depth of Biblical teaching communicated in a clear and relevant way. Pastors Alan and Sherri have a very practical yet inspiring teaching style combined with a ministry foundation that’s been proven fruitful over their 25+ years of full-time pastoral ministry. They enjoy reaching people from all walks of life and church backgrounds.
We are an evangelical church
That means we believe the Bible is God’s inspired Word, that Jesus is the Saviour of the world, and that salvation comes by grace through faith in Christ alone. We have chosen to ally ourselves with other evangelical ministries and churches who emphasize the same vision for evangelism, missions, and sharing the fame of Jesus. We appreciate and celebrate fellowship with the larger body of evangelical and denominational churches in our region and world and will not attempt to build ourselves up by tearing others down. Even amidst some doctrinal diversity, we can unite and celebrate with others who declare the redemptive truths of the death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus Christ.
We are a Spirit-filled church
That means we are a church that believes the ministry of the Holy Spirit is vital in the life of a believer as well the Church. We have a Pentecostal/Charismatic heritage and perspective with regard to the supernatural work of the Holy Spirit. We believe He empowers and equips us for serving and helps us live our lives victoriously. We unashamedly embrace a joyful, contemporary Spirit-filled worship style. Our worship team’s primary goal every Sunday is to lead us into the presence of God and allow the Holy Spirit to minister to hearts as only He can do.
Message vs. Methods
When it comes to ministry styles and methods, True North Church is loyal to the message but not the method. Our message is the unchanging Word of God and the Gospel (Good News) of Jesus Christ but our communication and ministry methods often must change because of a changing culture and changing generations. As fond as we may all be of unique church styles, past movements and eras, even revival eras, we must first of all stay loyal to the Great Commission of our Lord. As a church, we must keep going into the broken world we live in now and clearly and simply communicate the Good News of Jesus Christ in a Spirit-empowered way.
"In essentials, unity; in non-essentials, liberty; in all things, charity." - St. Augustine
